Show 234: Awaiting for the waters to rise by Frederic Alstadt

“Into lovers strings,
crumbled under soft shakes from the strech of the oblivion,
tainted simple encounters, bellow the lights of married chords

it’s a sincere road i followed,
time for a pause,
strewn of dark blue sound wires,
remanences of an unbordered amaricana ”

Christophe Guiraud

– – –

Traces of a hot & wet summers strings improvisations, I edited the two first sessions we made with my friend Amélie Grosselet. She was playing guitar, and I was playing apalachian dulcimer processed with different analog effets. As i’ve spent a lot of time in Venice this year, designing sound for an installation, i still had that strongly in mind. Water was everywhere there, around me and into the sound I was working on, I was amazingly obsessed by the “aqua alta” submerging the streets. These random rises inspired me.
The liquid element’s travel from meting snow recorded in the Alps in late march to Antwerpen industrialised rivers sides, followed our strings

Flood is to come

Show 220: 0°1533

0°1533 is an experimental project based on the search of space and sound matter. The project was initiated early in 2009 by way of performance work carried out by Gabriel Tapia, Gustavo Riego and José Luis Macas, all students attending the Art In The Public Space (AEsP) workshop of the Brussels Royal Academy of Fine Arts. The project’s main axis centres on the relationship between sound matter and visual plasticity, having recourse to scenic devices through the use of video and sound; plus the deployment, in premises where they are being diffused, of installations consisting of objects, instruments or machines producing sounds as well as visual and interactive props. The project uses improvisation as a (renewable) evolving construction. This introduces the notion of unlimited movement through progressive deployment, and engenders a constant “transmutation”. There is no pre-defined model. A minimum of common sounds is devised, acting purely as inductive filters. The notion of repetition is abolished here through the renewal, or constant transformation, of sound and visual motions. To enhance this dynamism, the project can interact with other artistic disciplines through different interventions based on new parameters. In parallel with the above, 0°1533 takes a social and political stance while maintaining its commitment towards the notion of “useful” art.

Show 206: 3 pieces from Radio Campus

A show in collaboration with Silence radio (www.silenceradio.org).

We are inviting you to a travel through 3 sound pieces from 3 different belgian artists, realised within the “soundscape forever” project.

1 – “Ruisselle” from Philippe Vandendriessche ( fév 2007 – 1’49 )

“Sur les hauteurs de Spa, un plateau enneigé et désert, une rivière gelée, qui coulait sous un vitrail de glace transparente. Des cavités s’étaient formées et l’eau faisait des mouvements de remplissage et de vidange dans des sortes de bouteilles de glace.”

“Surroundings of Spa town. A deserted plateau covered in snow, a frozen river that runs through this transparent ice window. Cavities had formed and water was then doing some mouvements to fill and empty those imaginary iced bottles.”

2- “Greetings from Italy” from Damien Magnette (Sept 2008 – 4’12)

“During the disorganised trip, our guide had messed around with road maps and itinaries. The “souvenir” diaporama will then finally be one mosaic landscape. ”

“Pendant ce voyage désorganisé, notre guide a brouillé la carte et retourné le plan.
Le diaporama souvenir sera finalement un seul paysage, réalisé en mosaïque.”

3- “Nous, les défunts” from Yannick Dauby,( Sept. 08, 18”55)

“Temple de Longshan à Taipei, septième mois du calendrier lunaire. Nous revenons, affamés, dans leur cité. Ils nous consacrent leurs récitations, leurs choeurs. Ils démultiplient les nourritures spirituelles. Nous errons un peu, puis ils nous guident jusqu’à la rivière en de longues processions. Bientôt nous nous réconcilierons avec eux et calmerons nos plaintes, avant de repartir dans le Royaume Inférieur.”

“Longshan Temple, Taipei, 7th month of the moon calendar. We come back, starved, in their city. They offer us some lectures, some songs. They multiply spiritual foods. We walk around a bit, then they guide us though the river in long processions. Soon we will reconciliate with them and calm down our moanings before going to the Inferior Kingdom.”
