Improvisation. Clarinet and programmed IT device.
We talk about meetings and dialogues. Time is stretching, transposed and staggered tones overlap and answer back one to another. Between the lines, a blending of frivolity, gravity, curiosity and complicity toward the unknown.

Sound recordings and IT patch have been realised within the framework of an artistic and research residence – GMEM, Marseille.

Marine Quiniou is a musician, composer and web designer. She experiments musical writing, research around digital and interactive instruments and e-book.

La troisième heure est un espace introspectif, en équilibre entre la subjectivité de la mémoire et l’expérience du réel. À travers la construction de paysages imaginaires composés de fragments sonores de sa propre vie, Clara de Asís explore l’ambiguïté du souvenir et son caractère artificiel.

Les sons de synthèse et les enregistrements anecdotiques, souvent confrontés à leur propre nature, convergent ici en un même espace et cohabitent dans une même temporalité ; une temporalité non-linéaire, une temporalité de la mémoire et de l’imagination.
Comme deux lignes parallèles, poussées à la rencontre, l’artifice et le réel convergent en un même point. De cette convergence, surgit une dimension inusitée, uniquement présente dans le silence de la spéculation, mais tout aussi réelle que ce que nous avons sous les yeux.

La troisième heure is an introspective space, in equilibrium between the subjectivity of the memory and the experience of reality. By means of the construction of imaginary soundscapes composed of sonic fragments of her own life, Clara de Asís explores the ambiguity of the remembrance and its artificiality.

Sintetic sounds and anecdotical audio recordings, often faced to their own nature, converge in the same space and cohabit the sam temporality; a non-linear temporality, a temporality of the memory and of the imagination.

Like two parallel lines, pushed to join, the artificious and the real converge in the same point. From this convergence, an inedit dimension is born, only present in the silence of speculation, but as real as what we have infront of our eyes.

Out come the wolves is the second sound piece of Nicolas Perret and Cédric Anglaret’s project The four seasons of Paanjärvi in which, since 2009, they focus on the soundscape of the small russian village of Paanajärvi. Isolated in the thick primary forest of oriental Karelia, Paanajärvi has somehow fallen out of the time. Its inhabitants, the last custodians of the disappearing Karelian culture, live a tough life that is strongly bond to the nature surrounding them.

Winters are harsh in Paanajärvi. At this latitude, the sun doesn’t show much and temperatures remain way below freezing for many months. As winter progresses food gets rare for the wolves. Out of the forest they approach the village at night to attack dogs, that the villagers try to protect by all means. As long as dogs are barking the wolves are still far; once they are silent they are nearby. In the winter of 2012, 23 dogs were eaten by the wolves in Paanajärvi.

Following Out come the wolves, a 6 minutes addition sheds light on the Man who eats dogs.

The four seasons of Paanjärvi is supported by SCAM, Défi Jeune, the Juminkeko Foundation and Radio Grenouille.

Out come the wolves est la seconde pièce du projet de Nicolas Perret et Cédric Anglaret Les quatre saisons de Paanajärvi, initié en 2009, autour du paysage sonore du petit village russe de Paanajärvi. Isolé au milieu des grandes forêts primaires de Carélie orientale, Paanajärvi est un village hors du temps où les habitants, derniers dépositaires d’une culture carélienne en train de disparaître, mènent une vie rude en étroite relation avec leur environnement naturel.

Les hivers sont durs à Paanajärvi. A cette latitude, le soleil se montre peu et les températures demeurent négatives durant de longs mois. Au fur et à mesure que l’hiver avance, les loups ne trouvant plus rien pour se nourrir en fôret se rapprochent du village et, la nuit venue, attaquent parfois les chiens que les villageois essayent tant bien que mal de protéger. Quand les chiens hurlent les loups s’approchent. Dès qu’ils se taisent – après quelques jappements effrayés – les loups sont là. Cet hiver là, 23 chiens ont été mangé dans le village.

A la suite de Out come the wolves, une seconde pièce de 6 minutes fait la lumière sur l’Homme qui mange des chiens. Les quatre saisons de Paanäjarvi a recu le soutien de la SCAM, Défi Jeune, Radio Grenouille et la fondation Juminkeko.

Depuis 2007 Nicolas Perret et Cédric Anglaret ont mis en commun leurs pratiques de la musique et du documentaire sonore dans un projet de collection, création et diffusion sous le nom de La Danse de l’Ours. www.ladansedelours.blogspot.com

Une traversée souterraine et aérienne pour écouter des forêts luxuriantes, des déserts et des univers glacés… Entendre et survoler une succession de paysages intérieurs, des chrysalides vibrantes aux éclosions lumineuses, des cris d’animaux sauvages aux chants terrestres…

Loïse Bulot compose à partir d’assemblages de sons récoltés au fil du temps.
Sa pratique de la musique électroacoustique intègre les instruments du monde et le field-recording.

Pas si loin, ils sont là, dans un monde parallèle. Ce documentaire animalier pénètre un univers virtuel, pas très loin de chez nous, chez ces sons mutants, ces êtres qui sont le fruit d’erreurs et de bugs.
Monstres propose un voyage dans les programmes et les circuits électroniques, entre le 1 et le 0, dans cet interstice, au gré du hasard où ils vivent, cachés comme des monstres.

Not so far, they are there, in a parallel world. This nature documentary enters a virtual world, not far from us, the home of these mutants sounds, these beings are the result of errors and bugs. Monstres offers a journey through programs and electronic circuits, between 1 and 0, in this crack, at the sandstone of chance where they live, hidden as monsters.

Show 340: And the sun came up

And the sun came up is the first sound piece of a project which, since 2010, focuses on the soundscape of the small Russian village of Paanajärvi. Isolated in the thick primary forest of oriental Karelia, Paanajärvi is somehow living out of the time and its inhabitants -among them the latest of the disappearing Karelian culture – live a tough life strongly bond to their environment.

In the beginning of May Paanajärvi plunges into spring. The snow eventually melts, the river breaks free from the ice and everyday, new birds arrive, new insects overrun the swamps quickly followed by thousands of frogs. For the inhabitants it’s time to go outdoor and resume their activities: preparation of the fields for the coming cultures, repairing and putting the row boats back to the river, fishing etc…

This is the first of four sound pieces that will each explore one season of Paanajärvi.

Since 2007 Nicolas Perret and Cedric Anglaret joined their own practices of sound, documentary and performative art into a common project of collection, creation and diffusion : La danse de l’ours.

The Four Seasons of Paanajärvi received support from the SCAM, Défi Jeune, the Juminkeko foundation and Radio Grenouille.

Show 320: An evening with Froggies by Etienne Noiseau

Because it had to be done, the Radia piece #320 from Radio Grenouille is about… frogs.

So you’re going to hear the Mediterranean Tree Frog alias Hyla meridionalis and also some froggies looking for amphibians such as newts, and other bipeds more distant and busy with their own sounding party. Disclaimer, no frogs were eaten during the making of this piece as far as we can tell.

The whole material of this piece was recorded between 9 and 11 PM on the 30th of April 2011, during a naturalist outing led by Groupe Ornithologique du Roussillon and Chevaux & Chemins on the plateau of Roupidère.

Alors… the Italian as a field… hmmm… of roots. As a thread that ties your own life up, an engine of memories and hidden emotions.
The Italian language course as a game. Languages that run one after another, overlapping each other, recalling themselves in an attempted translation, just like Naples and Marsiglia soundscapes emerging from memoirs of Monique’s, Therese’s, Vivianne’s childhood. All of them are pensioner over sixty, living in Marseilles, with Italian origins. Also meet Flore, Danielle and Eliane that present themselves in the street with their translated names Fiore, Daniela and Eliana.
Immersion in a soup based on Italian, Neapolitan and French, where to find right gender concordance and how to get the right pronunciation.
The Italian class is not a psychoanalytic session.
Yet, speaking Italian gives form to a carnal relation with language, to the childhood memories of “le Panier” known as the “Petite Naples”, and of “la Cabucelle”, two districts in Marseilles that are “really like Italy”. A dream of Italy, warm, sunny and sublimated.
Defined sometimes as babi, spaghetti or ritals, French people with Italian roots are beginners, false beginners, or advanced….
“False beginner” is something like faked beginner, maybe the feeling we have when we speak a second language; maybe the society’s condition with migration’s phenomenon…
“False beginner” is a show based on binaural recordings in Naples’s Quartieri spagnoli and in Panier and Cabucelle districts, recordings in different Italian classes, interviews and dialogues in public spaces.
