Listen to the story of the Videofreex, from some of the original members of the video collective that began in the late 1960s in New York City. After meeting at Woodstock, the video art group was hired by CBS to do “60 Minutes”-meets-“Saturday Night Live” show that gets one pilot made. After that pilot, several CBS executives are fired. But Abbie Hoffman hires members of the group to write the pirate broadcasting chapter in “Steal This Book” and pays them with video transmission equipment. So the Videofreex head upstate to Greene County and start Lanesville TV, what might be America’s first pirate television station. Interviews are excerpted here from many sources: Skip Blumberg and Parry Teasdale speak at a recent Dorsky Museum talk about the group, broadcast by Wave Farm Radio. Jon Nealon, the filmmaker at the helm of the just-released documentary, “Here Come the Videofreex!” is also interviewed here, as is Andrew Ingall, the curator of the show about the group that is at the Dorsky Museum through July 2015. Show 521: Improv Breakfast by Joni Erika Smith (Radio Corax)
In this year 2015 is the 300 year anniversary of the birth of German Baroque Composer Georg Friedrich Händel, born 23 February, 1685 in Halle (Saale), Germany. And it is the 100 year anniversary of the death of Russian Pianist and Composer, Alexander Nikolajewitsch Skrjabin and also, on March 8 – celebrated around the world every year – International Woman`s Day. With this in mind, two members of a folk, pop Indie band, an actress and classical pianist student talk about „Art“, Music, the World and their place in it. Improv Breakfast is a conversation in three parts which developed naturally through an organic interview (process). If it can be said that: Art is where the line is always searching, then somewhere that line will bend – there will be overlap (of ideas, expressions). The interviewees are not in the same room at the same time, but they sometimes end up at the same place. The subjects are at once the interviewed and interviewer. The three sensory and tactile stories unfold and come together gradually and grow organically to somehow form a new story. Each of the interviewed say they forgot they were in an interview. The listener will hear with all the senses. And the current that runs through it all is breakfast of course! – where many good conversations begin.

Show 510: Second Sketch for Ascent and Descent/A Secret Postscript (Resonance FM)
The Resonance Radio Orchestra was up in Scotland in August 2014 when Resonance104.4fm broadcast Remote Performances, live from Outlandia, Glen Nevis, in a collaboration between the radio station and artists London Fieldworks. This live radiophonic work is called Second Sketch for Ascent and Descent. It was written, arranged and produced by Ed Baxter, and features Ed Baxter (bass guitar), Tam Dean Burn (voice), Ewen Campbell (whistling), Miriam Iowerth (xylophone), Peter Lanceley (electric guitar, singing), Charlie Menzies (fiddle), and Michael Umney (piano). In November 2014 we asked eminent American country singer Bob Cheevers to read a script for a new work. At the end of that recording he improvised a fragmentary text which – since it fitted perfectly with the theme, unbeknownst to Bob – we’ve now combined with the other Remote Performances material as A Secret Postscript.

Show 486: miraculous agitations by Dan Wilson for Resonance FM
Recorded in a single day, Dan Wilson introduces the possibilities of post-electronic music, taking the listener on a whistle-stop tour of trade waste bins with a view to discovering acoustic modules to electromagnetically scour for ‘miraculous agitations’: pleasing and unforeseen acoustic flourishes.
Dan Wilson is an award-winning electroacoustic composer, sound designer, writer, broadcaster and instrument builder. Currently Resonance104.4fm/ Sound and Music Embedded Composer in Residence. Mediadropping theorist, author of ‘Dropping Out’ (all copies now sadly impounded), the force behind Meadow House and Ashfordaisyak, etc.
Show 478: Theremidi Orchestra (Radio Student)
Theremidi is a made-up-word, a hybrid of thermin and midi controller. Theremidi Orchestra (TO) is a verb, an ongoing workshop of noise and drone production. The hands-on electro noise ensemble exists in the present continuous, but refers also to the history of electronic music. TO has a DIY (do-it-yourself) and DIWO (do-it-with-others) approach in making music / sound experiments, making our own instruments (theremidi, micronoise, touch-tone…), based on open-source technologies. Currently, the Theremidi Orchestra consists of 9 active members, coming from different study or professional backgrounds. Every Monday TO meets at Ljudmila = Ljubljana Digital Media Lab to practice and develop soundscapes and build DIY sound devices. Theremidi Orchestra is a process of mutual understanding and solving problems in a horizontal manner. First it led us to abort the need for a central figure of sound technician or conductor. The process of production involves experimentation with sound outputs, mutually composed music scores, shared responsibilities for individual parts of the process, etc.
The featured track has been recorded by Radio Student. The first 6:40 minutes is a fragment of a live performance at TRESK #5 Festival with sound artist and dancer Irena Tomažin at Kino Šiška Cultural Centre. The rest of the track has been recorded live at Radio Student for DJ Seansa morning radio show.

Show 462: 130 in 1 – more adventures with electronic circuits by Mark Vernon
This weeks edition of Radia allows us to eavesdrop as a father and his 10-year-old son bond over a succession of increasingly fiddly electronic experiments – at the behest of the manual they connect wires, transistors, capacitors and diodes to create an array of weird and wonderful crackles, beeps, buzzes and other electronic noises. Harking back to the bygone days of the BBCs Radiophonic Workshop in feel, variations on these sounds form the basis of the musical score that underpins the piece, playfully oscillating between real and imaginary spaces. As improbable as it seems, the outwardly dull schematics and diagrams open the doorway to a world of fun, exploration and the joy of discovery.
