On the first of March 2008, the Radio Department of RITS (an audiovisual arts college in Brussels) existed 10 years and this was celebrated with a weekend filled with lectures, radio performances, listening moments,…
Central guest was Gregory Whitehead, radio guru and all-round audio artist. Jan De Pauw (Brussels based culturual philosopher) wrote a ‘State Of Radio’ for this 10th anniversary.
In this Radia show, you can listen to this ‘State Of Radio’ in Belgium, as well as some audio works and soundscapes first grade students made at the Radio Department of RITS.

Recording of a live performance by The Brussels International Circuit Bending Orchestra, on the 29th of April in Q-O2, Brussels.
The Orchestra was formed during the ‘audio atelier’, a 3 month-lasting project focussing on artistic audio research and creation. This project is a part of the 3th Bachelor Audiovisual Arts – Radio/Audio in RITS, an audiovisual college in Brussels.

The electronic piece is made in the french acousmatic tradition from archives of the french radio. While the radio broadcasted to the french colonies in East and in the Maghreb, Pierre Schaeffer has founded “Groupe de recherche musicale” in 1949 after he met John Cage. It was originally produced for theatrical issue in 2002 around testimonies of Harkis fighters and ex-french soldiers.
The project was aborted but in the meanwhile there were produced. Four years later, this piece can be heard for themselves.
