From free103point9 in upstate New York, a story of sound effects, subverting a documentary-style radio show with bits of radio theatre created entirely of sound effects. Foley effects in films, and live theatre and radio sound effects are explored. Also music from Spike Jones (“The Sound Effects Man”), Rufe Davis (“I’m a Sound Effects Man”), and Dymaxion (“The Haunted Radio”), plus fake commercials, and excerpts of pop songs (“Paper Planes” by M.I.A. and “Pop Life” from Prince) and more. This was an amazing programme. Producing quality sound effects is an art form, and the work that goes into it is much more complex than the everyday person might think. Listening to this programme gave me an insight – just under half an hour’s worth! – but an insight no less into that strange and wonderful world. Thank you!
